About Gladys's family
Hosting in Markham since 2018

Hi there, my husband and I are a young, friendly, and welcoming couple. We are happy to help you transition into Canadian society comfortably, as we speak English fluently, and can speak some Chinese if you like. I am a local high-school teacher, and my husband is an IT consultant. We enjoy making delicious foods, keeping a healthy lifestyle, and play volleyball and badminton regularly. In our common spaces, there is a TV with Netflix, a ping-pong table, piano, Playstation console, and a great selection of boardgames we’d like to share with you! I like to make delicious Chinese, Italian and Korean food for meals, and you will always have access to fruits, yogurts, and other quick foods if you need. Our home also has high-speed unlimited internet access. Our home is a 5-min walk from Bur Oak Secondary School, a 10-minute walk to the GO station (so you can go downtown easily), and have access to numerous bus routes in the area. There are parks, soccer fields, tennis courts, Markville Shopping Center, supermarkets, shoppers drug mart, and lots more in the area. We hope to provide you with a fun and rewarding experience, safety and support, and learn from you too! =)

    HOUSE RULES
    SECURITY
    1. Make sure that you lock the main doors when you leave the house.
    2. The house is equipped with a security alarm which is turned on late at night. If you need to come home late, let us know so we can disarm the lock for you.
    3. Let us know if you will not be going home for the night or for several nights. Please advise when we can expect you to be back.
    CLEANLINESS
    1. Common areas and rooms should be kept clean at all times. If you accidentally spill or made a mess in the common area, please clean up your mess.
    2. Only papers or non-food items should be placed in the garbage can inside your room. Food waste should be thrown in the food bin in the kitchen. Food wrappers or containers should be disposed in the kitchen either in the garbage bin (e.g. non-recyclable plastics) or in the recycle bin (e.g. boxes, cans and recyclable plastics).
    3. You can use the vacuum to clean up your room. Make sure to return the vacuum to its proper place.
    4. Garbage day is every Friday morning, please make sure that you dispose the garbage bin in your room on Thursday night.
    5. Keep your room clean at all times. We will check your room once in a while to make sure it is clean.

    • Saturday to Sunday – anytime of the day
    3. Be sure to check if the dryer is free of lint before loading it.
    4. Remove your clothes from the washer/dryer immediately after the cycle so other people will be able to use the machine.
    5. Please follow the precautions in using the machines (e.g. no flammable items in the dryer, etc.)
    BATHROOM USE
    1. The basement bathroom is to be shared by all homestays. Please make sure that you don’t stay too long in the washroom especially in the morning when other students are also preparing for school.
